Outward Bound Anakiwa NZ Fund
YOU CAN CHANGE LIVES WITH OUTWARD BOUND
Your support changes the lives of young people in your region who need support to reach their full potential.
Since 2019 the Outward Bound Harakeke course has provided a life-changing opportunity for 70 young people from your region. Harakeke, or flax, represents family in Maori culture and was an industry at the cornerstone in the development of your region. It is this spirit of whanau, hard work, success, and service to others that we want to encourage and develop in young people.
Outward Bound works in partnership with the following schools to ensure that the course is relevant and engaging and responds to the opportunities and challenges identified by teachers of your region.
Palmerston North Boys High School | Palmerston North Girls High School |
Queen Elizabeth College | Freyberg High School |
Feilding High School | Rangitikei College |
Awatapu College |
For 21 days each year a group of 14 students in year 12 travel to Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds, pushing themselves to their limits and finding out what they are truly capable of. They build courage and resilience, experience success as a member of a team, identify their own values, and develop an appreciation for the natural environment and experience being of service.
Students are selected because they show commitment at school but are not realising their full potential. These young people do not have the financial resources to benefit from an opportunity like Outward Bound.
Once students have completed their course they return to their family, school, and community and make a genuine contribution, becoming leaders in their own lives, taking on opportunities at school, and being of service to their community.
It costs $5,000 per student or $70,000 per course to provide 21 days of life-changing experience for these special young people. Consider a one-off or ongoing gift to ensure local rangatahi continue to get great experiences like these.
